About us

Thornbury Musical Theatre Group (TMTG) was founded in 1968 as the Thornbury Amateur Operatic Society, with its debut production of Oklahoma at the Castle School in Thornbury

We have spent over 50 years performing a variety of musicals, pantomimes and revues. We always enjoy the challenge of tackling new genres and shows only recently released for amateur productions. These include successful shows such as The Wizard of Oz, Jesus Christ Superstar and Shrek the Musical.

Our mix of shows presents ample performing opportunities, but there are many other key areas for our members and supporters to get involved. These include: directing, choreography, dance and musical direction; our technical team of lighting, sound and stage crew; set design and building; creative art and painting; costumes and props; front of house; publicity and marketing.

Despite our serious intentions, we are a friendly and sociable group with a real mixture of ages and skills. Our busy social calendar includes; workshops, BBQs, theatre trips, curry nights and weekends away.

TMTG is a member of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).  NODA supports the education and information needs of individuals and organisations with high quality services and products that contribute to the success of amateur theatre, as well as encouraging appreciation of the sector by participants and audiences alike.

Do feel free to contact us, join us or hire us, come and see our shows, and tell all your friends and family about us!
